Emotional Disharmony

Happy-Sad-FaceAs many of you may be aware essential oils can be very helpful in times of Emotional Disharmony. Because our sense of smell is hot wired directly into the limbic system of the brain, aroma can elicit a mood or memory response before one is even aware of what one has smelled or at times even that one has experienced an aroma at all.

Whether one is experiencing an emotionally challenging time, one just wants to shift one’s mood, or one wants to create that special ambiance, using essential oils can be an easy and very effective way to achieve one’s goals.

Your preferred method of use will depend on who the synergy is for and the focus of the synergy. If the synergy is intended to assist one individual there are many choice and the final choice will be up to the individual: personal inhalers, baths, diffusers, misters, body products, perfumes etc. If you are creating the synergy to be used by a group or in a larger area: diffusers and misters work very well.  See the article on Ways In Which Essential Oils Can Be Used on our website.

Here are a few suggestions for some emotional states:
Anger: (easily): Basil, Blue Chamomile, Cypress, Frankincense, Lemon, Peppermint.
Anger: (temper tantrums): Black pepper, German chamomile, Cypress, Eucalyptus, Frankincense, Peppermint, Rose.
Concentration: (poor): Basil, Clary Sage, Marjoram, Rosemary.
Confusion: Angelica, Cistus, Lavender, Myrrh, Nutmeg, Patchouli.
Despair: Cajuput, Cinnamon, Lemon, Neroli, Rose, Sage.
Fear: Benzoin, Bitter Orange, Cedarwood, Clove, Juniper, Laurel, Lavender, Rose, Rosemary, Vetiver.
Grief: Cypress, Cistus, Chamomile, Lavender Neroli, Bitter Orange, Rose
Indecision: Basil, Caraway,Cedarwood, Clove, Geranium, Grapefruit, Palmarosa, Ylang Ylang.
Indifference: (Apathy): Bergamot, Celery Seed, Ginger, Juniper, Melissa, Yarrow
Mood swings: Benzoin, Black Spruce, Caraway, Cinnamon, Eucalyptus; Geranium, Lavender, Peppermint, Rose, Sandalwood, Vetiver.
Rejection: Angelica, Bitter Orange, Calendula, Clove, Dill, Helichrysum, Niaouli, Roman Chamomile, sage.
Worry: Bitter Orange, Carrot Seed, Cedarwood, Frankincense, Goldenrod, Jasmine, Lemon, Neroli, Patchouli, Yarrow.

To create that special ambiance choose from the following:
Meditation: Cedarwood, Frankincense, Lavender, Sandalwood, Vetiver
Romantic Interlude: Benzoin, Lemon, Neroli, Orange, Rose, Jasmine, Vanilla, Ylang Ylang
Party Time: Basil, Bergamot, Cinnamon, Clary Sage, Geranium

It is important to keep in mind that aroma preferences are very personal so keep that in mind when creating your own special synergies and have fun with it!
