The cosmetic industry has long used essential oil in creating their beauty care products, so why don’t we look  at some ways in which we can create our own beauty care spa treatment right at home.

Home Facial
There are 6 main steps to doing a facial:
* Cleansing
* Exfoliating
* Steaming
* Massage
* Mask
* Moisturize

Add just one drop of the right essential oil or blend of essential oils for your skin to one or more of the steps above to enhance your facial greatly.

While your mask is on, wet a couple of cotton pads with a hydrosol to cover your eyes.

Manicure and Pedicure
A drop or two of the right essential oil or blend of essential oils can be added to the hand or footbath taken before the pedicure. Remember that essential oils do not dissolve in water so add an equal number of drops of emulsifier to your essential oil blend, or if you don’t have an emulsifier add an equal number of drops of liquid soap to disperse the essential oil droplets through the water. Your essential oil or blend can also be added to a hand and/or nail cream. If you enjoy making cosmetic products you can create your own cream from scratch and add your essential oil blend to it or you can add your blend to an already formulated cream base.

Nail and cuticle oil
Combine 2 tablespoons (30ml) of jojoba with 2 tablespoons (30ml) of sweet almond oil in a clean dark bottle. Add 20 drops of your essential oil blend to this as well as the contents of one vitamin E capsule. Cap the bottle and rotate and gently rock to combine the contents.

Salt Scrub
A Salt Scrub is a great way to leave your skin feeling smooth and looked after. Combine 1 cup of Epsom salts with 1 cup of sea salt. Add 6 drops of your essential oil blend to 2 tablespoons of carrier oil – sweet almond, grapeseed or whatever you have available ñ cold pressed oils are best. Then mix your oil/essential oil blend into the salts well. Wet your body with warm water and then starting from the top and working down rub the salt mixture into your skin. When it is rubbed in all over stand in the shower for a couple of minutes to allow the steam to open the pores. Finally rinse all the salt off. This will leave your skin feeling beautifully smooth silky.
